Congratulations Principal Jacobs and Guidance Counselor Rachael Allison! 2017 HCPSS Award Recipients

Mrs. Rachael Allison has been named the 2016-2017 Howard County Public School System Counselor of the Year! She supports our students and families every day by providing support, resources, and a listening ear. We are grateful for her phenominal work!

Here is an excerpt from her nomination package:

"Her support of students, whether in small groups or individually, has provided them the guidance and encouragement to deal successfully with problems, helping them to feel nurtured and safe while in school.  Mrs. Allison offers lunch bunches, friendship groups, study groups, and other support groups for specific situations encountered by our students. Her collaboration with parents is deeply appreciated as we work in partnership to foster our students’ success."
 

Mrs. Jacobs has been named a finalist for the 2017 Howard County Public School System Principal of the Year award! We are all very thankful for her leadership with Waverly staff, students, and community members!

"Mrs. Kathy Jacobs, Principal of Waverly Elementary School in Ellicott City, Maryland creates an environment of inclusivity and collaboration by engaging staff, students, and families as valuable educational partners. She has earned the reputation as a strong instructional leader and caring individual by all who have the pleasure of interacting with her. She is a life-long learner who strives for excellence not only for herself, but also for everyone she serves. A student states, “She inspires others to want to be a teacher and a principal.” A parent who expressed her appreciation for her ongoing community partnership believes that “Kathy’s accessibility and commitment to families is exceptional.” Mrs. Jacobs’ belief in fostering meaningful relationships serves as the foundation for everything she does, and her effective leadership style continues to influence both current and aspiring leaders throughout our school system. As a consummate leader among leaders, a fellow principal confirms, “Mrs. Jacobs is highly respected by her administrator colleagues.” During her illustrious forty-three year career within the Howard County Public School System, Kathy Jacobs has served as a Teacher, Instructional Team Leader, Assistant Principal, and Principal. Mrs. Jacobs hold a B.A. in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in School Administration."
